»I once had a crush on a boy called Robert.
But he always used to pick his nose and he ate
like a pig. That was disgusting! Then I
didn’t like him any more.«

Excerpt:

My mother once suggested that I should get a ball filled with rice so that whenever I’m really mad I can trample around on that instead of taking it out on other people, like my sister for instance, and not beat her up or slam doors and things.

Sometimes my mother says to me: When you were smaller, you were much cuter than you are now! I think I’m pretty cheeky. Yeah. But sometimes I’m nice too. It depends. I’m cheeky when I feel like being cheeky. And nice when I feel like being nice. I just say, Mmmmmh!, and then I’m nice. Then I go Mmmmmh! again and I’m bad and Mmmmh! and I’m sad. That’s just the way it is.

On Wednesdays, me and my sister always go to my father’s and once a month at the weekend. Sometimes he hasn’t got any time on Wednesdays. Then we change it to Tuesday. My mother and father had a big fight. This is what happened. They were going for a walk one day and Nicola said, “Come on, let’s go along here.” And then Harry said: No, we’re going along there! And that’s where they went, where Harry, my dad, wanted to go, and they went past Hansine’s house. They only wanted to see who lived there. But then Hansine lured Harry away somehow and got him away from Nicola. When I was little, I always wanted to know: How did she lure him then? With a kiss? Or with a cake? Or with cheese? I can’t believe the way I once was any more. – Harry moved in with Hansine, but now she’s only sort of my step-mother, because they never got married. ...
